4 Tips For Creating A Productive Work Space

Not only am I lucky enough to have to worry about one work space, I get to have TWO of them: One for my day job and one in my home office.

How To Create A Productive Office Space

I like to think that I’m a really organized person. I use my Google Calendar ON TOP OF my Kate Spade planner. And everything is color coded. So I think it’s safe to say I’m organized.

Until recently. I had an internal freak out when I realized HOW messy my desk was. I literally just started throwing things out left and right. It got to the point where one of my coworkers asked me if I was leaving the company. I then realized how much happier I was by that

relatively

small action. I started to think about ways to just simply and spruce up my work space in an effort to create a more productive office space for myself.

Get those good vibes going

This should 100% happen right from the start of the day. If you head into work feeling down or cranky, odds are the rest of your day is going to be quite crappy. Wake up and think about a few things you’re grateful for. Put on a good outfit. Listen to an uplifting podcast on your way to work or put on your favorite playlist. Get a work out in. Just get it going and you’ll be set for the rest of the day…and that includes a productive office day.

Add all the accessories

It’s YOUR space. So don’t hold back

I realized my space was so bare after the purge, and I needed some fun desk accessories. Naturally, I went insane because I’m an extremely irrational person. I started with some

Poppin

desk accessories. I know, I’m crazy for not using my company’s dime for getting desk accessories. But I honestly just didn’t want to get generic Staples things. I wanted a space that was conducive to my productivity and a place I wanted to physically be at over almost 8 hours a day. I also got some new, fresh notebooks.

These are my favorite

. I have one in my bag at all times that I keep on hand for any blog-related things (ideas, goals, etc.). Then I use a

larger one

for work and that stays at my desk.

I’m not gonna lie, I spent a silly amount on desk accessories over the last week. I just couldn’t help myself. I had a vision and I went for it. That’s how it’s supposed to go, right?

DESK ACCESSORIES I’M LOVING

Okay, not too many accessories

You definitely don’t want to clutter your desk with things that are unnecessary. This is probably cause the opposite of a productive office space. I’m limiting my desk space to things that I NEED. File organizers, trays for stapler/tape/etc, and cups for paper/binder clips are a necessity for me. I have a lot of different documents that I reference throughout the day during meetings, and I need them to be easily accessible. But I definitely am not looking to add a ton of knickknacks to my desk — that’s what caused my mini-mental breakdown. Keep it simple.

Give yourself a pep talk

Ever since I started working, I’ve always had little motivational desktop backgrounds. Most of my backgrounds come from

. I find them just so adorable. Not only are they pretty additions to your work space, but they’re nice little reminders throughout the day. Sometimes when 2PM hits or the day is just stressful AF, these little motivational backgrounds give me the little pep talk I need to continue on with the day.
